NAPTIP to Investigate Child Abuse Claims at Daycares

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has committed to investigating credible claims of child abuse and misconduct at daycare centers across Nigeria. This announcement follows a resurgence of discussions on social media regarding singer Simi's past comments about her experiences in daycare, which she shared between 2012 and 2013.

Simi's statements, made when she was 23 and not yet famous, were intended to describe normal interactions with children. However, they prompted some online users to interpret her tweets inappropriately.

In response to the public outcry, NAPTIP issued a notice on Tuesday, encouraging anyone with firsthand evidence of misconduct to reach out confidentially via direct message or email. The agency aims to ensure a thorough review of daycare practices in light of these allegations.
