Lagos State Investigates Simi's Controversial Tweets

The Lagos State Domestic Sexual Violence Agency has referred controversial tweets by singer Simi to the police for a preliminary investigation. The agency's Executive Secretary, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, disclosed this during an interview on Thursday.

The tweets, which surfaced online, date back to 2012-2013 and include comments suggesting that men should stop raping women and mentioning the prevalence of sexual assault among women she knows. The resurfacing of these tweets led to significant backlash on social media, with many interpreting her comments as inappropriate.

In response, Simi clarified that the tweets reflected her youthful experiences and were not intended to be taken out of context. The agency has decided to escalate the matter for further scrutiny, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding children and addressing concerns raised by the public.

Vivour-Adeniyi noted that the agency's duty is to commence a preliminary inquiry, urging anyone affected to come forward with statements to aid in the investigation.
