Simi Addresses Backlash Over Resurfaced Controversial Tweets

Nigerian singer Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, responded to backlash following the resurfacing of old tweets that sparked controversy. The tweets, dating back to 2012, included a strong statement calling for rapists to be burnt and castrated amid an ongoing sexual assault case involving TikTok user Mirabel, who later retracted her claims.

This led to mixed reactions online, prompting social media users to uncover Simi's past tweets. In a clarification on her X page, Simi stated that she had not been active on Twitter for some time and that the tweets were from 14 years ago when she was 23, asserting she was not a child at that time.

She explained that the tweets were meant to be humorous reflections of her childhood and not perverse. Simi emphasized her commitment against sexual violence, stating she has always spoken out against rape and sexual assault, and criticized the misinterpretation of her words by a "faceless mob.".
