Lagos Agency Refers Simi's Old Tweets to Police for Review

The Lagos State Domestic Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has referred old tweets allegedly linked to singer Simi to the police for investigation. This decision was disclosed by Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of the agency, during an interview on Channel Television on Thursday.

The controversy began when Simi made strong comments on social media condemning rape and urging men to stop committing sexual violence, which led to the resurfacing of tweets from 2012-2013 that referenced children and Mother's Day. These tweets prompted criticism from social media users, who described them as inappropriate.

In response to the backlash, Simi clarified that the tweets reflected her youthful experiences and were not intended to harm. The agency is monitoring the situation and has deemed it necessary to escalate the matter for formal scrutiny, particularly concerning child protection.

Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized that the agency's duty is to initiate preliminary investigations and that prosecution will depend on the availability of complaints.
