ADC Sees Membership Surge After INEC Deregisters Mark

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has experienced an unusual surge in membership registrations since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deregistered David Mark. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's spokesperson, noted this increase during an interview on Channel Television on April 20, 2026.

He explained that the rise in membership began after INEC's actions, which have drawn public attention to political events in Nigeria and encouraged citizens to engage in the political process. This development comes amid a deepening leadership crisis within the ADC, characterized by factions led by Nafiu Bala and David Mark.

The party's structural disputes date back to July 2025 when an opposition coalition assumed leadership, resulting in prolonged legal battles. A judgment from the Court of Appeal on March 12 confirmed that INEC no longer recognizes either faction.

INEC has stated that it will refrain from engaging with the ADC until the legal situation is resolved.
