Singapore's ICA Sets Rules for Foreign Spouses' LTVP

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore has outlined the requirements for foreign spouses of Singapore citizens to obtain a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP). Couples are encouraged to complete the Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment (PMLA) before marriage, which is a free online process that helps gauge the likelihood of LTVP approval.

While not mandatory, completing the PMLA can significantly shorten the processing time for the LTVP application from six months to approximately six weeks. If the assessment indicates eligibility, couples receive a Letter of LTVP Eligibility (LLE), valid for one year, which can support their LTVP application post-marriage.

Foreign nationals with a Work Permit in Singapore must seek approval from the Controller of Work Passes before marrying a Singapore citizen, regardless of the marriage's location or type. Failure to obtain this approval can result in the loss of work privileges and potential entry bans.

After marriage, the Singapore citizen spouse must sponsor the LTVP application via the ICA e-Service platform.
