SoFi Stadium Workers Threaten Strike Over ICE Presence

Workers at SoFi Stadium, represented by Local 11, are considering a strike if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are allowed at the venue during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The stadium is set to host eight World Cup matches, including the United States' first match of the tournament, scheduled for June and July.

Approximately 2,000 hospitality workers are concerned about the potential presence of ICE agents, which they believe could incite fear among employees and match attendees. Worker Isaac Martinez stated that they do not want to feel scared coming to work or fear for their safety when returning home.

The workers are seeking an agreement that ensures ICE will not be present during the games. California politician Tom Steyer has also questioned the relevance of enforcing immigration laws at a global sporting event, highlighting the anxiety surrounding FIFA's accreditation procedures and the sharing of personal data for stadium access.
