Sokoto State Approves N1.76bn for 1,000 Motorcycles

The Sokoto State Government has approved a budget of N1.759 billion for the procurement of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles to bolster security operations and combat banditry within the state. This decision was reached during the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, presided over by Deputy Governor Idris Gobir.

According to a statement from the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa, the motorcycles are intended to enhance the mobility of security personnel, especially in difficult terrains and areas affected by banditry. This procurement is part of a broader strategy to provide security agencies with necessary logistics, complementing the recent acquisition of 62 armored vehicles at a cost of N27 billion.

The council emphasized that this initiative aims to improve the operational capacity of security agencies across Sokoto State. Additionally, the meeting addressed various infrastructure projects, but the primary focus remained on enhancing security measures.
