Sokoto Governor Aliyu Launches N27.1bn Security Initiative

On Wednesday, Governor Ahmadu Aliyu of Sokoto State announced a new security initiative worth N27.1 billion aimed at combating insecurity in the region. This initiative includes the distribution of 62 operational vehicles and various security equipment such as bulletproof vehicles, armored personnel carriers, motorcycles, bulletproof vests, helmets, night vision goggles, and thermal devices.

The governor emphasized that these assets are part of a broader strategy to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies in Sokoto. Aliyu noted that the administration prioritizes security since taking office, recalling previous procurements of operational vehicles and the establishment of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps.

He also mentioned a proposed bill to the state house assembly to enhance collaboration between criminal intelligence and bandit informants. Furthermore, he called for support from the national security adviser and the Department of State Services (DSS) for the second phase of recruiting forest guards to improve security in the state's forests.
