Defence Minister Unveils 62 Vehicles, 320 Motorcycles in Sokoto

On Wednesday, the Defence Minister, Gener Christoph Gwabin Musa (rtd), commissioned 62 operational vehicles and 320 motorcycles, along with high-tech security equipment valued at ₦27.6 billion, aimed at strengthening the fight against insecurity in Sokoto State. The commissioning ceremony took place at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, attended by Governor Ahmadu Aliyu and other dignitaries.

The security assets include Buffalo Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), bullet-resistant vehicles, and advanced tools designed to enhance intelligence gathering and operational mobility for security agencies. Governor Aliyu emphasized that the security sector is a top priority for his administration, which has already procured 200 patrol vehicles and 250 motorcycles for security agencies.

The state government is also constructing military barracks and establishing a community guard corps. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to combat banditry and improve welfare for security personnel, with support from the federal government, including the training of forest guard recruits.
