Sokoto State Commissions Rural Road Projects to Boost Agriculture

The Sokoto State Government has completed and commissioned multiple rural road projects to enhance connectivity for farming communities and facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce. Hon. Malami Muhammad Galandachi, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Rural Roads Development, announced that the government has identified, designed, and awarded contracts for about 1,365 kilometers of rural roads, with various projects at different stages of completion.

Some roads have been completed and commissioned, while others await commissioning. Notable completed projects include a 23-kilometer road linking Dogondaji through Napa Guda and Yagawal to Tambuwal, a 21.18-kilometer road from Afag Alasan to Optimal Liman, and a 14.7-kilometer asphalt road connecting Nizawiya, Ngongoriyaya, Ngoromedaji, and Ngongonduko.

The improved road network has significantly reduced transportation costs for farmers, particularly in onion-producing communities. An additional 530 kilometers of rural roads have been identified for development, aiming to enhance access to farms, markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.

Galandachi also mentioned ongoing construction of markets in Illela, Gada, and Bodinga.
