Alonso Calls for Chelsea to Move On After Fernandez Sale

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso stated that the club must now "move forward" after the sale of midfielder Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for a British record-equalling fee of £125 million ($169 million). The transfer occurred just before the window closed on Tuesday.

Chelsea had aimed to replace Fernandez by acquiring midfielder Lamine Camara from Monaco, but that deal fell through when Monaco did not submit a deal sheet in time. Alonso emphasized the importance of focusing on the future, particularly with an upcoming match against Arsenal, where Chelsea seeks to maintain their perfect start to the season.

He acknowledged the contributions of Fernandez to the club and expressed gratitude for his time at Chelsea. Alonso also commented on the squad's depth and the healthy competition among players, asserting confidence in the team's balance and readiness for the challenges ahead.

He mentioned a late fitness check on Moises Caicedo, who had an injury scare during a previous match.
