Sokoto Hisbah Board Denies Restrictions on Christians

The Sokoto State Hisbah Board, under the leadership of Commandant Dr. Usman Abdullahi Jatau, issued a press statement on Saturday to refute allegations circulating on social media, particularly from a blogger identified as @radical.okoja.bia. The claims suggested that the Hisbah Board was imposing restrictions on Christian worship, including prohibiting mixed gatherings of men and women in churches and enforcing separate church services.

Dr. Jatau described these allegations as false and misleading, aimed at discrediting the Board and disrupting religious harmony in Sokoto, which he asserted remains a peaceful state where all faiths are respected. He clarified that the Hisbah Board's mandate, as established by the Sokoto State House of Assembly, pertains solely to Muslims and does not interfere with the religious practices of Christians or other faiths.

Dr. Jatau urged the public to disregard these allegations and continue fostering peace and mutual respect among different religious groups.
