Sokoto Government Disowns Sorcerer Detained by Hisbah

The Sokoto State government issued a statement on Friday, disavowing any connection to a sorcerer who was detained by the Sokoto State Hisbah for allegedly burying a goat alive. Abubakar Bawa, the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, clarified that the APC-led administration does not support or endorse the sorcerer's activities, regardless of political affiliation.

The government described claims linking it to the incident as false and reiterated its commitment to the values, laws, and religious sensitivities of the predominantly Muslim population of Sokoto State. The statement emphasized the importance of adhering to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the legacy of Sheikh Usman bin Fodiyo.

The government urged individuals engaging in actions contrary to Islamic teachings to cease such behavior and called on the Sokoto State Hisbah Board to take appropriate legal action.
