Sokoto State Strengthens Commitment to Social Protection

Sokoto State has renewed its commitment to social protection, as highlighted in a workshop organized by the state’s Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with the European Union, ILO, and UNICEF. Dr.

Abubakar Muhammad Zayyana emphasized the importance of revising social protection policies to address challenges such as insecurity and poverty. The workshop aimed to produce a draft policy that aligns with the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu, which focuses on reducing vulnerability and poverty.

Alhaji Ahmad Rufa Abubakar acknowledged the support from UNICEF and the European Union, while Mr. Michael Juma, UNICEF's Chief for Sokoto Field Office, noted significant improvements in the state’s social protection efforts, including increased budget allocations for health, education, and programs empowering women and children.

The workshop also highlighted the need for authentic data from the state social registry to effectively address social protection challenges.
