Sokoto State Strengthens Commitment to Social Protection

Sokoto State has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing social protection programs designed to alleviate poverty and support vulnerable citizens, despite facing significant security challenges such as banditry and kidnapping. The state’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Zayyana, highlighted these efforts during a two-day workshop held in Birnin Kebbi, organized in collaboration with the European Union and UNICEF.

The workshop aimed to review Sokoto State's social protection policy, which remains a priority for the government. Zayyana expressed hope that the workshop would produce a robust policy document capable of addressing current realities and achieving desired goals.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu was represented by Sani Abdullahi, who commended development partners for their continued support. UNICEF's Michael Juma noted significant improvements in the state's social protection system, including increased budget allocations for health and education programs.

The workshop emphasized the importance of credible data for effective implementation of social protection programs.
