Sokoto Requests ONSA Security Drill to Combat Banditry

The Sokoto State Government has urged the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to conduct a crisis-response simulation in the state to improve coordination among security and emergency agencies in addressing banditry and other security threats. Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, made this appeal last Sunday, commending ONSA’s Rapid Response 3 Crisis Response Exercise initiated in various parts of the country.

He described the federal initiative as timely and essential for evaluating the nation’s crisis management capabilities. Usman emphasized the importance of regularly testing response mechanisms to ensure effectiveness, particularly in light of ongoing security challenges in Sokoto.

He stated that a simulation would facilitate better communication and command structures among different agencies during a crisis. Furthermore, he expressed Sokoto's willingness to support ONSA in conducting such an exercise, which could also provide valuable lessons for the North-West region, where armed groups operate across state lines.
