Sokoto Governor's Aide Calls for Unity Against Banditry

On August 23, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, called for a united front against banditry in Sokoto State. He urged political leaders, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and residents to collaborate in the fight against insecurity, stressing that it should not be reduced to partisan politics.

Usman pointed out that bandits do not discriminate based on political affiliation when attacking their victims, who are ordinary citizens. He emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing insecurity and encouraged political actors to contribute positively towards promoting peace rather than politicizing security challenges.

While acknowledging the right of opposition politicians to express their views, Usman stated that such comments should be constructive and supportive of government efforts. He also commended former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator Aliyu Wamakko for his support to victims of bandit attacks and his engagement in seeking lasting solutions to insecurity.
