TCN Defends N1.28 Billion Solar Streetlight Projects

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) addressed allegations made by Emmanuel Oluwole Uti of FIJ regarding a payment of N1.28 billion for solar streetlight projects, asserting that these projects are National Assembly Constituency Projects included in the Federal Government's approved budget. TCN clarified that it did not initiate these projects; they were assigned to TCN as the implementing agency by the National Assembly.

The funds for these projects are not from TCN's revenue but are Federal Government appropriations approved by the President. TCN emphasized that all payments were processed through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) in compliance with financial regulations.

The procurement process received approvals from relevant agencies, including the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP). TCN stated that well-lit communities enhance security and protect national power infrastructure, aligning with its statutory mandate of bulk power transmission while executing assigned projects.
