Sultan Sa’ad of Sokoto Celebrates 70th Birthday

Sultan Sa’ad, who turned 70, was installed as the 20th Sultan of Sokoto in November 2006 at the age of 50. He possesses a member of the National Institute graduation certificate and has extensive military experience, having trained at the Nigerian Defence Academy and served in various locations across Nigeria.

His military career included significant roles in the Armoured Corps and as a commander during the ECOMOG interventions in Liberia and Sierra Leone in the 1990s. Sultan Sa’ad, a son of Sultan Abubakar III, has a deep understanding of power dynamics and conflict resolution, having studied at the National Institute for Policy Studies in Kuru Jos, where his dissertation focused on conflict and peace resolution.

He emphasizes the importance of using power for the public good, reflecting on the devastating effects of war and advocating for peace-building.
