Military Denies Allegations of Cover for Plateau Attackers

The military, through the Joint Task Force, has dismissed allegations that soldiers provided cover for attackers during an incident in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State. The claims were made by a youth leader and circulated on social media, which the military labeled as false and misleading.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Chinonso Oteh, the media information officer for the task force, confirmed that troops responded swiftly to a distress call but arrived at the scene to find that the assailants had already fled. The statement emphasized that there was no point in providing cover for the attackers, as they were no longer present.

The military urged the public to disregard the allegations, which they believe could demoralize troops and create disaffection within the military community. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, which resulted in an unconfirmed number of casualties, and pledged to ensure justice for the victims.
