Soldiers Defend Yobe Military Base from Boko Haram Attack

On the night of March 8-9, 2026, soldiers from the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, led by Lt. Col.

Sani Uba, repelled a coordinated assault by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on a military base in Goniri, Yobe State. The attack began around 2200 hours and continued until approximately 0300 hours.

Despite the insurgents launching a simultaneous assault in an apparent attempt to overwhelm the troops, the soldiers successfully resisted the attack through coordinated defensive actions and support from air components. Although a section of the defensive perimeter was briefly breached during the intense firefight, the troops maintained control of the base.

The clash resulted in significant casualties for the insurgents, who were forced to retreat, leaving several bodies behind on the battlefield. The military confirmed that the operation is ongoing to secure the area following the engagement.
