Troops Defeat ISWAP Attacks in Borno, Major Killed

On February 28 and March 1, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled coordinated attacks by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on military forward operating bases in Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram, Borno State. The military statement confirmed that five terrorists were killed during the assault, with the recovery of their corpses alongside weapons, including three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 tubes, four AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition.

Additionally, on March 1, another attack on the Gajiram base resulted in the recovery of three terrorist bodies and the seizure of arms and equipment. One wounded soldier was airlifted for advanced medical care.

The troops maintained full control of their bases despite intense fire and engaged in operations against terrorists in Kayawa village, neutralizing two more terrorists and recovering two AK-47 rifles.
