Soldiers Rescue 53 Hostages from ISWAP in Borno

On Thursday, Nigerian soldiers successfully repelled an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians held hostage. The operation was conducted by the 135 Special Forces Battalion under the command of Captain Moham Goni.

Troops dismantled an ISWAP roadblock along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area. Utilizing surveillance cameras, the troops detected the roadblock and dispatched a quick reaction force to the area.

During the operation, soldiers engaged in a firefight with the insurgents, who subsequently withdrew under heavy gunfire. The military recovered eight vehicles allegedly seized by the insurgents and cleared the area of any remaining threats.

The rescued civilians were evacuated to Buratai Town for medical evaluation. The Theatre Command commended the troops for their professional and swift response and urged the local community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements.
