Troops Rescue 53 Hostages from ISWAP in Borno State

On June 24, 2026, troops from the 135 Special Forces Battalion, operating under the Joint Task Force North East as part of Operation Hadin Kai, dismantled a roadblock set up by ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. The operation resulted in the rescue of 53 civilians who were held hostage and the recovery of eight vehicles seized from the terrorists.

The operation was initiated after troops deployed to Duts Kura detected the terrorist block through surveillance cameras. A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was dispatched to the location, where they engaged in a firefight with the terrorists, forcing them to retreat.

Following the operation, the rescued civilians were evacuated safely to Buratai town for medical evaluation. The theater command of Operation Hadin Kai commended the troops for their swift response and urged residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
