Soludo Forms Committee to Investigate Awka Stool Crisis

On Thursday, Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo inaugurated a committee to investigate the ongoing crisis surrounding the traditional stool of Awka. This crisis arose after allegations of the dethronement of Chief Gibson Nwosu, known as Eze Uzu II, and the emergence of Chief Austin Ndigwe as the third substantive monarch.

The committee, chaired by former Chief Judge of Anambra State Hon. Justice Paul Obidigwe and including Professor Kate Omenugha as secretary, consists of three members who are traditional rulers: Ben Emeka Nnaemeka, Patrick Egonu, and Rev.

Fr. Mauric Izunwa.

Governor Soludo charged the committee to conduct a thorough, impartial, and comprehensive inquiry into the issues leading to the tension surrounding the traditional stool. The committee's mandate includes determining the immediate causes of the dispute, the appropriateness of Chief Nwosu's dethronement, and the legitimacy of Chief Ndigwe's selection and installation as the traditional ruler of Awka.

The committee is expected to deliver its findings by March 17, 2026.
