Anambra Chief of Staff Survives Gunmen Ambush

On May 31, 2026, between 8 PM and 9 PM, Chief Ben Nwankwo, the Chief of Staff to Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was ambushed by gunmen while returning to Awka from an official assignment.

The incident occurred along Amansea Awa Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area. Although Chief Nwankwo escaped unharmed, two policemen and two civilians were killed during the attack.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants opened fire from nearby bushes, causing panic in the community. In response to the attack, the Anambra State Government expressed shock and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

The state government emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice and stated that security agencies are working to apprehend those responsible for the attack. This incident has raised concerns about security in the state, which has been striving for peace and security.
