Soludo’s Wife Advocates Exclusive Breastfeeding for Infants

Dr. Nonye Soludo, the first lady of Anambra State and founder of the NGO 'Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo', called on women across Nigeria to prioritize exclusive breastfeeding for their infants as part of the 'World Breastfeeding Week 2026', observed globally from August 1 to August 7.

In a press statement released in Awka, she highlighted that breastfeeding is essential for healthy growth, immunity, and bonding between mother and child. She encouraged expectant and nursing mothers to adhere to the recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, stating that no water, herbal mixtures, or other foods are necessary during this period.

Dr. Soludo emphasized the importance of quality breastfeeding in reducing childhood illnesses and mortality.

She reiterated the commitment of the state government to support mothers through awareness and education initiatives, aiming to empower every mother to breastfeed confidently and ensure every child thrives from the start.
