Ndume Critiques U.S. Sanctions Proposal Against Kwankwaso

Ali Ndume, a lawmaker representing Borno South in the Nigerian Senate, condemned a proposed bill by five U.S. lawmakers that seeks to impose sanctions against former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. The bill, introduced in Congress, is based on allegations that Kwankwaso and organizations like the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore violated religious freedom.

The legislation is titled the "Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2026" and is sponsored by Chris Smith, Rilei Moor, Brian Mast, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Bill Huizenga. In an interview with Channel Television, Ndume expressed his concerns, stating, "Something fishy is going on," and emphasized the need to understand why Kwankwaso's name was included in the sanctions proposal.
