South Africa, Nigeria Enhance Travel and Tourism Ties

On September 2, 2026, the South Africa Tourism Connect event was held at Heritage Place, Ikoyi, Lagos, focusing on enhancing travel and tourism between South Africa and Nigeria. Bobby Moroe, the Acting High Commissioner and Consul-General of South Africa, emphasized the importance of safety for Nigerian travelers, stating that incidents reported in media do not reflect the average South African.

Mohammed Kwajaffa from the South African Tourism Board highlighted Nigeria as a key source market, aiming to rebuild confidence and showcase new experiences. Kemi Leke-Bamtefa from South African Airways stressed the need for reliable airlift and competitive fares to encourage travel.

Yinka Folami, President of NANTA, and Bolaji Mustapha, President of NATOP, discussed addressing historical and perception gaps to promote South Africa as a safe destination. Iyke Ejimofor from the Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce noted the interconnection between tourism and trade.

Stakeholders agreed to enhance joint marketing campaigns, improve safety information, and strengthen air connectivity.
