Julius Malema Found Guilty of Hate Speech Over 2022 Rally Remarks

South African opposition leader Julius Malema has been found guilty of hate speech by the country's equality court over remarks made at a 2022 rally. Malema's comments about a white man allegedly assaulting an EFF supporter were deemed to incite violence and harm.

The court ruled that calling for violence or vigilantism is an extreme form of harm and incitement. The case was brought following a complaint by the South African Human Rights Commission.

Malema's party, the EFF, dismissed the judgment, stating that the court deliberated unfairly.
