South-East Faces Blackout as EEDC Shuts Vending Platform

Residents in the South-East of Nigeria are facing temporary electricity service disruptions following the shutdown of the vending platform by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). Emeka Ezeh, a spokesperson for EEDC, stated that the shutdown was necessary for a major system upgrade that began on Friday.

The shutdown disabled the vending platform for postpaid customers at 6:00 PM on Friday and for prepaid customers at 12:00 PM on Saturday. During this upgrade, customers were unable to make payments or recharge their prepaid meters.

Normal service is expected to resume by 12:00 PM on Sunday, May 24, 2026. This upgrade is part of EEDC's efforts to improve its technology and strengthen operational efficiency to provide customers with a smoother service experience.

The temporary shutdown affects customers across EEDC's subsidiary distribution companies in the region, which include Mainpow in Enugu State, Firstpow in Anambra, Transpow in Imo State, Newera in Abia State, and Eastland in Ebonyi State.
