Sowore Blames Low Voter Turnout on Trust Issues

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), addressed the media regarding the low voter turnout in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections. He attributed this phenomenon to a significant loss of confidence in the electoral process, stating that many Nigerians no longer believe their votes will yield desired results.

Sowore expressed that the recently signed electoral amendment law does not provide the necessary transparency to foster trust in democracy, which he described as being in dire need of "oxygen." He noted that the current situation has led to voter apathy, with individuals choosing to stay home rather than participate in a process they perceive as ineffective. Sowore emphasized the importance of restoring faith in democracy, particularly as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections, urging citizens to prepare themselves intellectually for future electoral challenges.
