Soyinka Demands Justice from Tinubu Over Killings

Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka called on President Bola Tinubu to publicly disclose the findings of investigations into unresolved assassinations and extrajudicial killings in Nigeria. Speaking on Friday in Port Harcourt during the 28th Wole Soyinka Lecture organized by the National Association of Seadogs (Pirates Confraternity), Soyinka stated that the continued silence on these issues has fostered impunity and denied justice to victims and their families.

He recalled that after assuming office in 2023, President Tinubu requested files on these unresolved cases and urged him to reveal the outcomes. Soyinka highlighted the killing of Deborah Samuel as a painful example of Nigeria's justice deficit, asserting that the greater crime is the silence that follows such killings.

He warned that a nation allowing state actors or others to kill without consequences has failed its citizens and called for a collective rejection of impunity to build a society based on accountability and respect for human life.
