Spurs Sign Sandro Tonali for Record £100 Million Fee

Tottenham Hotspur has reached an agreement to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for a club record fee of £100 million, according to reports from British media on Wednesday. The deal consists of an initial payment of £92.5 million, with an additional £7.5 million in add-ons.

Tottenham's head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, is set to secure Tonali's services despite interest from Premier League champions Arsenal and rivals Manchester City. This significant move is part of a broader strategy to revamp the Tottenham midfield, which also includes the signing of Mateu Fernández from West Ham for £85 million.

The club is operating under a tight wage structure following the promise from former chairman Daniel Levy to fund a rebuild after stepping down in September. Sandro Tonali is currently serving a 10-month worldwide ban imposed by the Italian Football Federation for breaching betting rules, which will prevent him from playing for Newcastle until May 2024.
