SSANIP Urges FG to Enforce NBTE Rules for Polytechnic Staff

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has called on the Federal Government to implement the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) rules concerning the duties of polytechnic staff. This request was made during the 49th regular zonal executive council meeting of the South-South zone, held at the Federal Polytechnic Ukana in Akwa Ibom State.

The communiqué, signed by zonal coordinator Godwin Ikhid and zonal secretary Eni Usang, emphasized the need for proper implementation of the NBTE's directives to eliminate the tendency of non-teaching staff usurping teaching positions. The council also urged the government to address delays in releasing the 2019 scheme of service, which they noted was counterproductive.

Additionally, SSANIP expressed concerns over the high rate of insecurity and rising petroleum prices affecting members and called for urgent government action. Dr.

Emmanuel Enyiegor, the deputy national secretary of SSANIP, mentioned ongoing negotiations with the government regarding the welfare of polytechnic staff.
