SSANU and NASU to Suspend Strike on May 11, 2026

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have decided to suspend their ongoing nationwide strike effective May 11, 2026. This decision follows a series of meetings with the Federal Government aimed at resolving outstanding demands, particularly the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement related to welfare concerns.

A circular sent to branch chairpersons indicated that the Federal Government has committed to concluding the outstanding renegotiation within two weeks. The announcement was jointly signed by NASU General Secretary Peter Adeyemi and SSANU National President Moham Ibrahim.

The Federal Government's commitment includes a review of the earlier salary offer, which requires approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership. The unions have urged their branches to convene congresses to ratify this decision.

The strike, which began on May 1, 2026, had disrupted administrative operations in public universities, affecting essential services and student activities.
