St. Gallen Claims Swiss Cup Title After 54 Years

St. Gallen secured their first Swiss Cup title since 1969 by defeating Stade Lausanne Ouchy 3-0 in the final held at Wankdorf Stadium in Bern.

Despite having their goalkeeper Luka Watkowiak dismissed just before halftime, St. Gallen dominated the match.

The victory came in front of a packed crowd of 30,000. St.

Gallen, who finished as runners-up in the Swiss Super League behind Thun, had previously achieved the remarkable feat of reaching the final after knocking out three Super League teams. They concluded the season in fourth place in the second tier after winning the Swiss Cup title, which grants them a place in the Europa League qualifiers for the next season.

St. Gallen, founded in 1879, is one of the oldest clubs in Europe and has won the league twice, in 1904 and 2000, alongside their Swiss Cup triumph in 1969.
