The alumni of St. John’s Secondary School, 1997 set, are in mourning following the sudden death of Dr.

Fridai Owuna at the age of 48 due to a brief illness in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Described by peers as a brilliant and driven individual, Dr.

Owuna's passing has sent shockwaves through the alumni community. Onuminya Innoc Yusuf, a member of the 1997 set, noted the profound impact of this loss, while Boi Ochoch Oyaj expressed that the moment was devastating, reflecting on their shared academic journey that began years ago.

Dr. Owuna, who earned a doctorate and contributed significantly to academia, will be transported from St.

John’s Hospital Mortuary in Livingston to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on March 20, 2026, before being conveyed to his hometown in Ikor Ochekwu, Apa LGA, Benue State for burial rites. His untimely death serves as a tragic reminder of life's unpredictability, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him.
