SEPTP Advocates for Poultry Feed Cost Reduction Policy

The Sustainable Entrepreneurship-led Poultry Transformation Programme (SEPTP), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, has advocated for sustained funding and effective implementation of the National Animal Feed and Fodder Policy to reduce poultry feed costs and improve the livelihoods of poultry entrepreneurs. This call was made following a stakeholder workshop organized by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development in Abuja, where the minister, Idi Maiha, identified inadequate access to animal feed as a significant constraint to livestock production.
SEPTP noted that high feed prices and unreliable supplies hinder the earnings of young poultry entrepreneurs. The proposed implementation framework includes community storage facilities, early-warning systems for feed shortages, and improved access to finance.
SEPTP is also processing High-Quality Cassava Peel (HQCP) as an alternative feed ingredient, particularly supporting young women in developing enterprises around this product. The policy aims to stimulate investment and create jobs in feed processing, storage, transportation, and distribution.
