Stakeholders Call for Local Financing to Fight HIV and TB in Nigeria

Stakeholders, including AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), urge the Nigerian government to prioritize local financing for HIV and TB response. They emphasize the need to reduce reliance on dwindling foreign aid, with currently 80-85% of HIV funding supported by foreign aid.

The call was made during the CSO Financing Dialogue on Domestic Resource Mobilisation in Abuja. National Coordinator of Network of People Living with HIV in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Abdul Kadir Ibrahim, highlighted the importance of sustainability in domestic financing and the need for health insurance coverage and domestication of HIV laws.

The stakeholders stress the urgency to act swiftly to meet global targets of ending the epidemic by 2030.
