Stakeholders push for implementation of youth policy, roadmap in Akwa Ibom

Stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State are advocating for the implementation of a youth policy and roadmap to support the development of young people in the region. During a two-day stakeholder roundtable event, senior government officials, civil society organizations, and development partners emphasized their commitment to supporting the Ministry of Youth Development in implementing the Youth Policy Roadmap.

The stakeholders pledged to work together to facilitate the passage and executive assent of the Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund (AKYDF) Bill, which aims to establish a central financing mechanism for youth development in the state. Additionally, there were calls for the establishment of a State Youth Parliament and an integrated Youth Advisory Board to ensure youth participation in policy-making and strategic financing.

The stakeholders also highlighted the importance of a robust Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning framework to track progress and ensure transparency in the implementation of youth programs. Furthermore, they emphasized the need for a comprehensive Disability Law to safeguard the rights of youth with disabilities and extend the age limit for youth.
