Stakeholders Advocate for Inclusive Climate Action in Nigeria

Stakeholders in Nigeria have issued a communique at the end of a workshop focused on inclusive climate action, highlighting the economic hardships faced by vulnerable communities. They noted that frequent environmental degradation exacerbates these hardships, trapping communities in a cycle of vulnerability.

The stakeholders called for deliberate interventions to address the root causes of injustice and inequity in climate action, emphasizing the need to move beyond mere policy rhetoric to practical frameworks that center local voices in planning, implementation, and monitoring processes. They stressed the importance of integrating gender inclusivity and considering disabilities in climate programs to ensure no group is left behind.

The workshop identified weak coordination among civil society actors as a major barrier to effective climate advocacy. Stakeholders agreed on the necessity of improving collaboration to strengthen collective influence on climate policy and enhance equitable access to climate finance.

They urged government institutions to develop partnerships with the private sector and media to support inclusive, transparent, community-driven climate action in Nigeria.
