Nigeria's Roadmap to Reduce Emissions in Construction

Stakeholders in Nigeria's building and construction sector are initiating efforts to reduce carbon emissions through a collaborative roadmap. This initiative, led by Danjuma Waniko, President of the Green Building Council Nigeria (GBCN), aims to address the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and increasing climate risks.

The roadmap is expected to span approximately 18 months and will combine technical analysis with ongoing stakeholder engagement. It will assess the sector's emissions profile and policy landscape, identifying priority areas for transformation and developing actionable pathways to support Nigeria's climate development priorities.

The initiative is part of a broader climate development agenda and emphasizes the importance of collaboration across various stakeholders, including government, private sector, financial institutions, academia, and civil society. The GBCN's statement highlights the significance of this roadmap in shaping Nigeria's future building stock and avoiding carbon-intensive systems.
