Stakeholders Demand Imo Governorship Ticket for 2028

Stakeholders from the Owerri Group have called for the Imo State governorship ticket to be zoned to the Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta local government areas for the 2028 elections. During a press conference held in Owerri, Imo State, they expressed concerns over the marginalization of these oil and gas-rich areas since the state's creation in 1976.

Dr. John Donald Ikegwuruka, representing the group, emphasized the need for recognition and equitable resource distribution, stating that the local governments have significantly contributed to the state's growth but have been excluded from political power.

The stakeholders released a two-page communiqué demanding that the next governor be from their region, highlighting the historical grievances and the urgent need for development in their communities. They also commended the current relationship with the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, and expressed hope for a partnership that would address long-standing issues affecting the area.
