Nigerian Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali Explains Departure from South African Club After AFCON 2025

Stanley Nwabali, the Nigerian goalkeeper, clarified his decision to leave South African club Chippa United following the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco. Nwabali played a crucial role in Nigeria's third-place finish, including securing a bronze medal after a penalty shootout against Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard's Egypt.

Despite Chippa United's initial attempts to retain him, Nwabali expressed his dissatisfaction with the club during the 2025-26 Premier Soccer League season. He mutually terminated his contract with the club based in Gqeberha, citing personal happiness and professional priorities.

Nwabali, now a free agent, is being monitored by clubs in Saudi Arabia, Europe, and Africa, with Al Ettifaq mentioned as a potential suitor. Ezekiel Ajewol, a football coach, highlighted Nwabali's resilience during his time at Chippa United.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) also commended Nwabali's impressive performances during the AFCON 2025 tournament.
