Nigerian Governors Propose State Police to National Assembly

The Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF), chaired by Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has submitted a proposal to the National Assembly to establish a framework for state police. This initiative was disclosed during a Sallah homage visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, where 25 governors participated.

The governors emphasized the need for renewed coordination to tackle persistent security challenges and improve socio-economic outcomes for citizens. They aim to align this proposal with the administration's broader development agenda.

The discussions on state police are ongoing among various security organizations, led by the National Security Adviser. The document submitted will be considered by the National Assembly to see the legislative framework for state police.

Governor Abdulrazaq, whose state faces security issues, praised President Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda, which aims to deepen citizen engagement in national development and improve security outcomes.
