PSC Chair Calls for Probe into Nigeria's Policing Failures

On Wednesday, Dig Hashimu Argungu, the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), urged for a comprehensive investigation into the structural and operational failures within Nigeria's policing system. This call was made during a meeting with the committee led by Olu Ogunsakin, which is responsible for implementing state police.

Argungu highlighted the growing demand for state police in Nigeria and stressed the importance of identifying and addressing the underlying problems that have led to this necessity. He recommended that the committee examine the relationship between federal and state offenses and consider the implications of outdated laws in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Argungu encouraged the committee to request additional time if needed to ensure a thorough and effective framework for the proposed state police system. He emphasized that the PSC cannot work alone and must leverage the expertise and knowledge of its members to assist in reforming Nigeria's police force.
