IGP Disu Reveals Framework for Nigeria's State Police

On Thursday, during a workshop organized by the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies in Abuja, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu revealed that the committee responsible for developing a framework for state police in Nigeria studied policing models from India, the United States, and Pakistan. Disu emphasized the importance of comparative analysis in creating a workable framework for Nigeria's state police system.

He stated that the workshop aimed to educate senior officers about the proposed structure and address concerns regarding its implementation. Disu confirmed that the Federal Government has resolved to establish state police and that the Nigeria Police Force is tasked with supporting this initiative.

He also mentioned that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum had already formed its own committee on state police, which had concluded its work prior to the police committee's efforts. Disu encouraged participants to critically evaluate the proposed framework and contribute ideas to enhance it.
