States Roll Out Support as NYSC 2026 Batch B Swearing-In Begins

State governments across Nigeria are unveiling support measures for the newly sworn-in 2026 Batch B Stream II National Youth Service Corps members. The announcements came during orientation ceremonies held across multiple states on Friday, with governors and their representatives committing resources to improve conditions for the young corps members during their one-year service.

In Ebonyi State, a monthly stipend of ₦30,000 per corps member was approved, with state officials emphasizing commitment to the welfare and security of those deployed to the state. Abia State similarly announced enhanced welfare initiatives alongside infrastructure and entrepreneurship support packages during its orientation ceremony in Bende Local Government Area.

Rivers State Governor pledged administrative backing for the scheme, with 3,584 corps members sworn in at the Nonwa-Gbam orientation camp. Physical infrastructure improvements are also underway in some locations.

Katsina State Governor directed a structural assessment of the state's orientation camp, which has operated for 25 years without major renovation work. The evaluation will guide a comprehensive upgrade of facilities to better accommodate incoming corps members.

In Jigawa State, the NYSC coordinator urged the new corps members to focus on skill acquisition and job creation during their three-week orientation course, framing the service year as an opportunity to transition from job-seeking to entrepreneurship. The swearing-in ceremonies reflect broader efforts by state administrations to position the NYSC scheme as a platform for youth development and national service.

Officials across the states described corps members as nation-builders with potential to contribute meaningfully to their host communities. The emphasis on welfare improvements and entrepreneurial training suggests states are viewing the scheme beyond its ceremonial function, attempting to create conditions that support corps members' success during their deployment period.
